IRPAS Newsletter: April 2017

Greetings, members and friends

On behalf of IRPAS, I am pleased to present you with our first newsletter for 2017.
Through this periodic updates, we hope to keep you abreast of the key initiatives that have been carried out by our Association recently as well as to provide you with up-to-date information on upcoming events and news related to IRPAS and the IR community.

Ending 2016 on a Resounding Note

We had a few events to round up 2016 including the final Institutional Investor’s Lens Series for the year and our year-end festivities.

IRPAS completed the 3rd and final Institutional Investor’s Lens Series for 2016 with Mr Lim Jit Soon, a portfolio manager with the Equities Department of GIC. Jit Soon provided the attendees with invaluable insights and advice, leveraging on his experience of more than 20 years as a research analyst cum strategist for various bulge bracket firms.

To end the challenging year on a happy note, we held a get-together for our members on 15th December 2017 at The China Club, Capital Tower. We are truly appreciative of the generous support we received from our Supporting Member, EQS, which made the evening all the more memorable. In addition to the opportunity to mingle and network, our members also had the opportunity to witness the award ceremony for the successful candidates of the ICIR examination conducted in November 2016.

Moving forward

As we move further into 2017, I would like to take the opportunity to welcome the new members to IRPAS. I would also like to thank our existing members for renewing their memberships. We are appreciative of your support and remain committed to deliver to our members maximum value for being a part of our IR community.

In our focus to champion best practices, professionalism and integrity amongst IR practitioners in Singapore, we are planning a series of event that will be both relevant and constructive.

One of the long-term goals of IRPAS is for Investor Relations to be officially recognised as a profession by the MAS. There is an opportunity for us to do so now. MAS has appointed a Corporate Governance Council to review and make recommendations to the Code of Corporate Governance for listed companies. IRPAS would like to submit a paper to the Review Committee to substantiate the case that Investor Relations is a profession by itself and has a distinct strategic role within the corporate organisation. This has been adopted by many jurisdictions in the developed markets. Not being officially recognised mean not being eligible to tap on the FSD grants administered by the MAS. I am pleased to announce that we have successfully obtained the endorsement by SIAS in support of our representation to the authority. I welcome any views and feedback on this matter. Please send your thoughts to me at president@irpas.com. Let me thank you in anticipation.

We have highlighted some of our coming programmes in this newsletter and will continue to keep you updated through our correspondences and our website.

Thank you for your continuing support.

Yours sincerely,

Harold Woo
President

EQS Website Ranking Survey Award

IRPAS is excited to be partnering with EQS, a digital investor relations agency to conduct a survey on IR websites. The objective of this exercise is to provide companies an opportunity to evaluate their own IR websites and how they fair with their peers. At the same time, IRPAS will recognise companies which maintain and uphold good practices for their IR websites. The three factors that will be examined include:

  • Content
  • User Experience
  • Web Technology

Once the survey has been completed, we will be sharing the results to all companies.

We are excited about this survey and look forward to sharing the findings with you.

IR Best Practices

We have launched a new section on our website consisting of curated articles and information which will be useful to IROs. The purpose is to share knowledge and learning to enable IROs to perform better in their role.

This will be updated regularly, therefore please keep an eye out for it.

The Evolution of the Governance Debate and the Rise of Shareholder Activism

On 14th March, IRPAS collaborated with SIAS and our corporate supporting member Tulchan Communications, at a lunchtime discussion featuring Andrew Grant, Founding Partner of Tulchan Communications. He spoke about the “The Evolution of the Governance Debate and the Rise of Shareholder Activism

Andrew who has over 25 years of experience in corporate and financial communications shared his views and insights with a small group of invitees by SIAS. The sharing touch on institutional investing market trends and their impact on Investor Relations (IR). It was a very relevant and interesting luncheon talk, sponsored by Tulchan Communications.

We hope to collaborate with SIAS and other corporate supporting members to bring more of such events whenever they have an interesting speaker who is keen to share their insights and experiences with our IROs.
