PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Dear Members & Friends,
Yuletide greetings to all of you!

Time goes by so quickly and we are now drawing to the end of 2018. We started the year with the appointment of our new outsourced secretariat manned by Intellitrain.

During the course of the year, we organised four knowledge-sharing events with the support of our corporate supporting members. We also held a live webcast of the UKs IR Society Annual Conference in June. IRPAS sponsored two conferences: the 9th Singapore Corporate Governance Week organised by SIAS and the South East Asia Forum & IR Awards by IR Magazine. We ended the year with a members year-end function on the 4th December.

Heartiest congratulations to the 17 successful candidates who took the ICIR examinations in 2018. Please do include the ICIR acronym on your name card, to help publicise this certification. You have earned it.

The highlight of the year was undoubtedly the admission of IRPAS as a professional development partner of SID for their LED (Listed entity director) programme. Within this programme, we now provide the faculty for three mandatory electives on media relations, investor relations and crisis communications for new directors of companies. We believe this will help us to propagate the strategic value of Investor Relations to a wider financial community.

The Board has lined up several initiatives to strengthen best practices by IROs and their professional development in 2019. The first of these would be a co-operation agreement with Smartkarma which will involve a one-year free access to their soon to be rolled-out C Suite product. Please look out for the details in the new year.

I had the pleasure of being invited to HKIRA 10th Anniversary IR Forum and Gala Dinner in Hong Kong on the 6th & 7th December. The HKIRA has about 800 members. There were two half-day sessions covering a wide range of topics relevant to the IROs. I represented IRPAS on a panel discussion covering the development of worldwide IR associations and best practices by international IROs. Besides IRPAS, the IR Society of UK, IR Club of Germany and AIRA had sent representatives. About 500 delegates attended this well organised event.

We were really blown away by the enthusiasm and camaraderie exhibited by the attendees at the Gala dinner. It was clearly visible that the IR community in Hong Kong is closely knit and well supported by industry players.

Hence, my personal New Year wish is for IRPAS to emulate their spirit and hope that all IROs in Singapore will come together to foster a closer community of like-minded IROs who adopt good practices and raise the professional standing of IR in the financial community. I believe we will succeed if each of us is prepared to play a part. Please encourage your peers who are not members of IRPAS to join us. We have commenced our annual renewal programme.

I would like to conclude by wishing you and your family Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for the New Year! Thank you.

Kind regards,
Harold

Annual Year End Gathering
To cap the year, we had a year-end function at Rookery @ Capital Tower for our members. The perfect hangout which facilitated good networking opportunities and allowed members to get to know each other better. It was a memorable evening with excellent food and drinks.

A big THANK YOU to our special guest speaker for the night: Mr. Soong Tuck Yin, former Senior Managing Director, Head of Property Research, Asia, Commodities and Global Markets, Macquarie Group and corporate adviser, for sharing on the topic: How to leverage on your stock analyst to tell your corporate story?.

And not forgetting our sponsors: Orient Capital, Black Sun and Scripts Asia for making the event possible.
