Strong performance from Singapore-listed companies at key investor relations industry event

  • 4 IRPAS members, CapitaLand, DBS, Singtel and StarHub including Jeannie Ong, IRPAS Board member emerged as winners

Singapore, 11 December 2014 The Investor Relations Professionals Association (Singapore) (IRPAS) congratulates all the winners at the IR Magazine Awards – South East Asia 2014, held at the Singapore Exchange on 9 December 2014. These prestigious industry awards are a highlight of the year for the Investor Relations (IR) profession. The results were based on an independently conducted survey of hundreds of portfolio managers, buy-side analysts and sell-side analysts, who were asked through an electronic survey or telephone calls to name their favourite IR practitioners.

Four IRPAS members, CapitaLand, DBS, Singtel and StarHub received honours at the event ceremony. IRPAS members comprised approximately two thirds of all Singapore nominees for the awards.

Singapore listed companies were winners of a number of the awards, with DBS and Singtel both winning multiple prizes. The Grand Prix for Best Overall Investor Relations (Large Cap) was won by DBS, who also won the award for Best in Sector – Financials (excluding real estate) and Best IR by a Singaporean Company.  Singtel took home the awards for Best in Sector – Technology & Communications and Best use of Technology. Jeannie Ong, IRPAS Board Director and Chief Marketing Officer of StarHub, was voted Best Investor Relations Officer for a third consecutive time. Other local winners include CapitaLand (Best in Sector – Real Estate), Olam International (Best in Sector – Consumer staples (including Healthcare)) and Singapore Technologies Engineering (Best in Sector – Industrials (including materials)).

Harold Woo, President of IRPAS and Senior Vice President, Investor Relations of CapitaLand, commented, “I would like to offer my heartiest congratulations to all winners and nominees at the 2014 IR Magazine South East Asia Awards. I am delighted to see several IRPAS members win prestigious awards in various categories.

This is very encouraging to us at IRPAS as we continuously strive to elevate the investor relations profession in Singapore, by partnering closely with the regulators, listed companies and the investment community. I would like to call upon the industry and my fellow IR officers to continue working closely together to raise the bar and better ourselves in the coming year. IRPAS plans to organise more roundtables and workshops relating to IR in 2015 as our contribution to this cause. We hope more listed companies will join IRPAS next year and benefit from these programmes.”

During the awards, IR Magazine also highlighted the result of their Global Top 50 ranking, revealed at the Global IR Forum in New York from 17-19 November 2014. Four Singapore companies made it to the list: CapitaLand (ranked 7th), StarHub (ranked 12th), DBS (ranked 16th) and Singtel (ranked 17th). StarHub was also named Global Top Small/Mid-Cap (<US$7.5 bn market cap). “It is extremely gratifying that 4 Singapore listed companies have been recognised on the global stage in the practice of IR”, Harold added.
